Zomerschroeforchis is in de jaren vijftig voor het laatst in Nederland waargenomen. De soort is sterk achteruitgegaan door ontginning van de groeiplaatsen. Spiranthes aestivalis (Poir.) Rich. (1818) Spiranthes komt van het Griekse speira (spiraal) en anthos (bloem), om de om haar eigen as gewonden bloeiwijze.

De zomerschroeforchis (Spiranthes aestivalis) is een orchidee. De overblijvende plant staat op de Nederlandse Rode lijst van planten als niet meer in Nederland aanwezig. De zomerschroeforchis is voor het laatst in Nederland gezien in 1936. De plant komt van nature voor in Midden- en Zuid-Europa.

Spiranthes aestivalis, commonly called the summer lady's-tresses, is a species of orchid found in western Europe, Turkey, Russia, and North Africa. The specific epithet, aestivalis, is derived from Latin and means "pertaining to the summer". It has become locally extinct in the British Isles.

Re-introduction S. aestivalis. Objective of this project is to re-introduce S. aestivalis in a sustainable fashion at historical growing sites in The Netherlands. In 1873 Spiranthes aestivalis was discovered in The Netherlands for the first time.
Deze soort is beneden niet, maar naar de top toe wel wat behaard. Zij heeft meestal 3-4 spilvormige, verlengde, vlezige, vuilwitte knollen en vrij dikke bijwortels.
